1 pkg. Active dry yeast
1 ¼ cups warm water (105-115 degrees)
2 cups all purpose flour
¼ cup honey
2 Tbsp. shortening
1 ½ tsp. Salt
1 ¾ to 2 ¼ cups whole wheat flour
Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl. Add all-purpose flour, honey, shortening and salt. Beat on low speed until moistened; beat on medium speed for 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in enough whole wheat flour to make dough easy to handle. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes). Place in greased bowl; turn greased side of bread up. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in size; about 1 hour. (Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.)
